Orange Julius - Our New Favorite Beverage!

The other day while browsing through my favorite websites and blogs, I came across a recipe for an Orange Julius.  I had never had one of these, but I figured they must be pretty good if a store that creates only beverages could generate enough income to build franchises across the country!  I made them one evening to accompany our "breakfast-for-dinner" meal of biscuits and gravy (I ate eggs--for the 3rd time that day!), and the whole family loved them!  The taste is similar to an Orange Dreamsicle.  Very yummy.

I had to halve the original recipe to accommodate the size of my Magic Bullet blender.  This recipe makes about 2.5 cups, or 1-1/2 regular dinner glasses.  If you like more slushie consistency, just add more ice.

My cost per 8-oz. cup was only $.26, so certainly an improvement on the $3-4 per serving that they charge at the mall!

Orange Julius Copycat

1 cup orange juice
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup ice
1/8 cup sugar
1/8 cup powdered sugar
1/2 tsp.  vanilla
swirl of whipped topping, optional

Add first 6 ingredients to blender and blend until smooth, about 15-20 seconds.  Add whipped topping if desired.  Serve immediately.  The juice and milk will start to separate at the bottom of the glass as it begins to melt, so you really do need to serve immediately. :)
