Plan Twice, Move Once....or So We Hope.

Seeing as the little one's arrival is looming in just 7 more weeks, Ben and I figured it was high time to determine where and in what we would put this new addition.
I've been itching to switch bedrooms, as the current arrangement has the home office in the larger kid's room.  Translate that last sentence to read, "Every time you want to print something while the baby's sleeping, cross your fingers that the printer printing, the door creaking, and you sneaking into the room to get the printed paper doesn't wake up the baby."  Yeah, I'm pretty sure the last two years of doing this has cured me of wanting to do it now with a toddler and a newborn.  My chances of success are pretty slim.

So, we're making plans.

Ben and I measured out the rooms, closets, power outlets, and furniture, and then Ben came up with this cute little idea.  Using graph paper, he drew the dimensions of the room to scale, complete with closets, windows and outlets.  Next, he drew the furniture to scale and cut them out.  The little furniture cut-outs were great, because we could move them to see if we liked a certain arrangement, without having to redraw the plans every time.

I felt like I was playing paper dolls and dollhouse all over again.  We had a lot of fun "re-arranging" our rooms until we came up with a set-up we liked (at least on paper!)  Now, hopefully, all we will have to do is move it once, because we know exactly how we like it.  In theory, I'm thinking this was a great idea.  I'll let you know how it translates to reality!  I'm hoping this saves us a lot of hassle and back aches.

A very good adage. Take into consideration the bulk of reality associated with the cutouts. When I measured and fit for my hobbies in our loft, I neglected to think in 3D. It all fits and I work there with ease -- but ... it is bulkier than I anticipated.

Anyone of those three things is guaranteed to wake my baby up. I love the moving plans. Our house is small, but I'm itching to move things around. I just might have to play "paper house" and see if I can make it work. Thanks!
